Carla is a dedicated leader with a strong commitment to fostering positive community connections. With over 32  years of experience in the education field, she has developed a reputation for designing dynamic and engaging learning experiences for youth and adults, always pursuing innovative approaches to programs. 

She holds a doctorate in Interprofessional Leadership from Kent State University and has completed advanced studies in leadership, adult training and development, emotional intelligence, culturally responsive education and leadership, deliberative dialogues, mediation, intercultural development, liberatory design thinking, and trauma responsive education. 

 Before retiring from Akron Public Schools, she served in several key leadership roles, including Chief Diversity Officer, Chief of Community Relations and Strategic Engagement, Special Projects Coordinator, and Social and Family Services Specialist. Throughout her tenure, she successfully designed and implemented initiatives that removed non-academic barriers to student achievement, promoted systemic solutions, and addressed educational inequities 

Committed to collaborative approaches, she believes deeply in the power of shared goals and cultivating an environment rooted in trust, shared responsibility, accountability and excellence.

In addition to professional pursuits, Carla  is an active member of non-profit and community boards. Passionate about developing future leaders, she champions equitable access to quality education, healthcare, housing, safety, and wellness as the foundation for vibrant communities.  

A proud Akron resident, Dr. Chapman enjoys time with family and friends, travel, music and cultural events around the country.
